Billy Hum was a simple guy who enjoyed the simple things in life. His passion was fishing and he fished every season in the year. We first got to meet Billy when he was renting a room at Curt's place in Rockland. He was invited by Curt for his first Gamblorama in 1998 and he finally won the Canette in 2009. Billy was forced to back out of our 2016 trip because of work commitments but vowed to return at some point. He never got the chance.
Sadly, Billy passed away January 20, 2020, at the age of 61.
Kenny Cohen was a fan favorite, known to everyone who worked at CN. He came on a few fishing trips back in the early 80's and actually caught some fish and always entertained us with some tunes on his guitar. He loved the fishing trip but his real passion was music. And after retiring from CN in 2006, he upped that passion and started performing in local bars and clubs. Over the years, he became very popular and could be seen performing in many Montreal area bars and clubs including Duffy's, Smoked Meat Pete's, and House of Jazz.
From 2016, we tried to get him to come back on the fishing trip but he said, after quitting smoking, it would be too difficult.
After a brief illness, Kenny passed away February 5, 2020, at the age of 70.
Lorne was never a participant in the Gamblorama, he was our host for many years. We first stayed at his Laurentian View Resort in June 1995 and continued fishing there for almost twenty years. Always a great guy and a legend in the Westmeath/Pembroke area.
Sadly, Lorne passed away on May 11, 2024 at the age of 79. We will remember Lorne for his knowledge of fishing, his passion for his businesses (Laurentian View Resort/Spotswood Landing and FishingMapsPlus) -and- his love for other people's beer! Lorne, you will be missed. RIP, Buddy!
