The 50th Gablorama!

Lots of guys have annual fishing trips but not many have continued their tradition for 50 years. This year's trip to The Eagle's Rest was our 50th annual trip. It was another great four days with old friend Ron Maldorf returning to the trip after an absence of almost 20 years. He hadn't changed a bit!

We have been going to The Eagle's Rest for the past few years and Steve the owner never disappoints. We learned early on that he would not have boats available, so Snoop brought his and Rick lent us his boat for the weekend. A huge shout out to these guys for saving the weekend.

The weekend was a mix of on and off light rain for the first two days, then sun for the last two. Snoop took home the canette with a 6.5 pound cat caught from his boat parked at the Eagle's Rest dock!

Moments That Made the Trip

The boys in cabin 1 were woken early each morning by a woodpecker hammering on the metal soffit of Cabin 1. We were told that when woodpeckers are looking for a mate, they make the loudest pecking noise to attract a female. This guy learned a the metal soffit on a cabin works great!

A special part of the 50th anniversary was the music. Ron prepared a bunch of songs about the 50th year of the Gamblorama. The entire compilation of Gamblorama songs can be heard on Gamblorama Radio.

We were also introduced to the 50th anniversary Golden buy-in ticket, where anyone could get back into any Gamblorama game for $10.00. They were a huge success and will be back for the 51st trip.

Gamblers and fishermen on the 50th anniversary trip included Phil Anderson, Alvin Davis, Al Heaney, Kyle Heaney, Warren Kidd, Allan Macintyre, Ron Malloff, Richard Vien and Ron Zinn. Rick Beaudoin also made a brief visit on Monday afternoon.
