For many years, the Gamblorama was always Friday to Monday, which we all felt was too short, so we extended our 2022 trip by day. The extra day was perfect! It was a trip with no mosquitos, probably because of the cold mid-June weather. The overnight temperature on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings went down to 5c! Not a big deal but it's the first June trip where we had to use heaters.
Saturday was far too windy for boats, so fishing was a delayed for a day. When we finally got out, we fished and we fished hard without catch anything spectacular. The mighty Madawaska is different than most rivers and lakes with depths of 20 meters or more right on shore. Move over 5 meters and it could be 50 meters deep. We fished all the holes and bowls around The Eagles Nest without very much success. The trip is all about catching the largest first and we ended up catching many out of season Smallmouth Bass. All that said, Mac and Whop caught a bunch of nice Walleye in Wilson Bay. Mac took home the 2022 Canette with one of those Walleyes. Other species caught included perch and a small pike.
Alvin's wife, Melissa, made some pineapple cheesecake muffins for the trip, which were delicious! Who knew? Pineapple on cheesecake? In a muffin cup? Absolutely wonderful! Thanks Melissa, we're hoping this was not a one-time deal. Also on trip, Ron shared some of his Bitcoins, which he recently cash in. Now everyone is rich! He also treated everyone to a new version of his Der Zoiks Bauernhof chocolates: Chocolates made with 70% Bolivian Chocolate and a maraschino cherry center.
Because of the windy Saturday, the Gamblorama started early. Again this year, there were no clear winners but Alvin's cash bag might have looked a little heavier when the trip was over.
Gamblers and fishermen on the trip included Phil Anderson, Alvin Davis, Al Heaney, Kyle Heaney, Warren Kidd, Allan Macintyre and Ron Zinn.
