The 2021 Gamblorama

Eagles Rest - Griffith, ON

Gamblorama 2021: Cliff Farber shows up!

With the forecast of rain for most of the weekend, the 2021 Gamblorama weekend was mostly sunny and warm... a delight for some casual fishing on the Madawaska.

The 2021 Group

Our trip was delayed until the end of August because of Ontario COVID restrictions. With the two-month delay, fishing in the area was very different. The water level was lower, and the fish had moved out of the bays into the deeper water. Easy you say? Follow this fish? The Madawaska River in that area is different than most rivers. It could be 30 meters deep or more just offshore. We never found where all the fish were hiding and many of were shut out.

Of the several dozen fish caught, none were over a pound! Species included the usual smallmouth bass, pike, catfish, and perch.

There were gifts and door prizes for everyone on this trip. Phil brought the harvest from his garden and Meaney had genuine Donald Trump rings for everyone! Being the 44th trip, Ron had Gamblorama t-shirts made for everyone! Wear them proud! He also brought along some of his funny money!

The Gamblorama started late Saturday afternoon, when we raised a glass to Billy Hum and Kenny Cohen, former participants who had recently passed away. After three evenings of Gamblorama, there were no clear winners! Some finished up a few dollars, others finished down a few dollars.

Gamblers and fishermen on the trip included Phil Anderson, Alvin Davis, Al Heaney, Kyle Heaney, Warren Kidd, Allan Macintyre and Ron Zinn. Also on the trip, former Gambler and fisherman, Cliff Farber showed up for a Sunday afternoon visit! Doh! We didn't get any photos of Cliff. Come on back in 2022 Cliff!

With Al Mac taking home the trophy for the largest fish at the 2021 Gamblorama, who knows where we will be going for our 2022 June Trip.
