The 2005 Fishing Trip

Moore's Cottages, Seeleys Bay, Ontario

A place so secluded, even the locals didn't know it was there.

For the second year in a row, Allan Macintyre won The Canette with an 8.5 pound northern pike. This year's Fishing Trip/Gamblorama Festival was held at the Moore's Cottages on Dog Lake just north of Kingston, Ontario. Dog Lake is part of the Rideau water system which runs between Kingston and Ottawa. Species of fish caught on the trip included northern pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and perch. Although the area claims to have lake trout and splake, there were none to be seen.

Al Macintyre with his week-end winning 8.5 pound northern pike.

For those who are counting, Al also caught the most fish, including half a dozen nice northern pike and a really nice largemouth bass. It was a successful trip for Al all around, he came a distant second behind Warren Kidd in the Gamblorama festival. Al picked up a bucket of change while Warren walked away with the big stuff.

We went into the town of Seeley's Bay for breakfast one morning and asked some of the patrons about fishing on Dog Lake. Not one person in the restaurant had ever heard of Dog Lake or Moore's Cottages... and all were locals!

Old pal, Cliff Farber showed up for a three hour visit with a six pack of 7-Up while Ron Malloff showed us how not to drink Mike's Hard Lemonade. Did someone really sit in that chair after Ron?

Players and fishermen on the 2005 trip included Phil Anderson, Al Davis, Al Heaney, Billy Hum, Warren Kidd, Al Macintyre, Ron Malloff and Ron Zinn.
