Frank backs out on the dream trip

Early in 2016, we were planning the trip of a lifetime saltwater fishing trip in Haida Gwaii, BC. The trip was cancelled due to lack of participation. Whop was out because of his ongoing medical condition. Al Davis was out because he doesn't go anywhere without Whop. That left the minimum required for the trip: Phil Anderson, Frank Franchelini, Al Heaney, Al Macintyre, and Ron Zinn going on the trip.

Plans were going great and most of us had made our down payment for the trip until we got the news that Frank had backed out. Turns out he doesn't like flying in short hop planes and helicopters.

The 2016 Crew

With the news of Frank backing out, our trip to Haida Gwaii was cancelled so we returned to Nangor Resort.

Big news on the 2016 trip? Another second-generation gambler and fisherman to carry on the Gamblorama after the first generation is gone. Scott Marley is a distant relative of Ron's and attended for the first time. So Frank was out and Scott was in.

The weather was hot for the 2016 Gamblorama and all of us got baked. Unlike other years, the fish were few and far between, probably because of the hot weather. Only 20 fish were caught during the entire weekend! Species included walleye, catfish and smallmouth bass. Whop took The Canette with a four-pound catfish.

There were no clear winners in the Gamblorama but Kyle was seen leaving with a pile of coins on Saturday night.

To add to the Gamblorama weekend, Ron brought a vintage 1928 Watling Blue Seal Confections slot machine that he had refurbished. It was fun to play but most were more interested in hearing about how it was refurbished.

Always a big thanks to the Admiral for preparing the great breakfasts, making the coffee... and cleaning up after!
