The 2012 Barbecuarama

Well, the name says Barbecuarama 2013 but it was really Gamblorama 2012. Nangor Resort was a step up from what we have experienced in recent years at Lorne Spotswood's Laurentian View Resort. Nangor is just several clicks down the river from LVR but is well set up in Hennessey Bay with really nice cottages and a beautiful beach. Before the trip, one guy mentioned that he was bringing a charcoal barbecue. Next thing ya know, everyone had plans of bringing a barbecue and Barbecuarama 2013 was born!

The weekend got off to a bad start when one of the three boats we rented did not start. The other two were difficult to start and took a lot of pulling to get going. With that, we had three guys in each boat with Meaney staying back at the cottage to take care of all those barbecues. Second day out, Ron and Phil were headed out to Riviere Noir and their boat started on the first pull! They headed out of Hennessey Bay into the main river and the boat stalled and never started again. Stuck in the middle of the river with one paddle they started paddling to shore but were getting nowhere. After 30 minutes another boat happened by and towed them back to the resort just as Whop and Al Mac where heading out. Only problem is that their motor wouldn't start! It took them a good 30 minutes before they got the thing going. The owner of Nangor later explained that he thinks he received some bad gas which is why all the boats had problems. We think he was overbooked and took out three boats that hadn't been used in a few years. Needless to say, we were not charged for the boats for the entire weekend.

Fishermen and players on this year's trip included Phil Anderson, Al Davis, Al Heaney, Billy Hum, Warren Kidd, Al Macintyre and Ron Zinn. The winner of this year's Gamblorama was clearly Al Heaney and the winner of The Canette was Warren Kidd. We're still not sure what Warren caught because of all the confusion with the boats but we do know that at least he caught the most fish.
